MedTek LDR

A revolution is taking place in Radiography Technology that allows acquiring and storing X-Ray Images fast and accurate, and diagnosing X-Ray Images instantly from anywhere possible. MedTek Low Dose Digital Radiology (LDR) offers the latest advances in Direct Digital technology ensuring low dose for the patient and instant high quality images for the radiologist.

Since 2002, MedTek LDR, through research and development, and innovative uses of the polycrystalline silicon semiconductor technology has produced serviceable linear array detectors, greatly reducing production costs and in turn the total cost for the digital medical imaging. The MedTek detector has high sensitivity, low radiation doses, density, high resolution, imaging speed, stable performance, low price, suitable for wide array of applications, and comes with ten years warranty.

The MedTek LDR system includes a workstation for diagnosis and an archive server. Integration with archive and viewing software makes the system suitable for fast and efficient diagnosis. Acquisition software is intuitively designed for easy use and is Windows based.

Image analysis can be done immediately on the diagnostic monitor, or at any location in the world by sending a compressed image to a centre equipped with well qualified radiologists.

Maximum daily throughput of 300 images can be achieved.

How MedTek LDR Works

The radiological workflow starts with patient registration, which marks the time when the patient approaches the Admittance Front Office, and ends when the report is in the hands of the patient. The whole workflow process can be categorized into several steps involving Patient Registration, Execution, Reporting, Archiving, and Delivery. Obviously, the most important time differences between film-based versus filmless radiography are found in Execution, Reporting, and Archiving stages.

As far as Execution is concerned, the complete digital handling of images eliminates the use of film and all operations for film developing. A second advantage is that the bad images no longer require operators to perform the same examinations again. This clearly makes the digital x-ray examinations much faster than the traditional one.

The digital process also strongly influences the Reporting step as a result of the following factors: a large number of tools to speed up and optimize the analysis of the image as performed by the radiologist; Digital Archiving enables fast access to image database in case of comparison with previous examinations of the same patient; and the printing and signing of the report can be made practically at the same moment, directly from the radiologist. The whole digital process is filmless and paperless, avoiding also the need for people movements inside department.

In contrast to its traditional counterparts, by making the whole radiology workflow, filmless and paperless MedTEK LDR delivers very significant improvements and leads to an increase in the annual number of examinations, and a decrease in general costs. Moreover, the time needed for delivery of results is reduced.

MedTek LDR Benefits

Patient friendly

Direct digital X-ray gives patients access to fast, accurate and convenient X-Ray screening, reducing their travel cost, waiting time and speeding up access to diagnosis and treatment; Up to 60 patients can be examined per hour. More importantly, all these benefits come with low dose exposure for patients.

High digital image quality

Digital images are instantly available on the diagnostic monitor with constant high quality. Software tools to zoom in or to add contrast to the digital image are available and enhance ease and accuracy of X-Ray screening. Issues of poor readability and deterioration or loss of films are prevented.

Low image cost

Films and developer are no longer needed, storage of images is done electronically and superior readability allow for a very low cost per image. Cost savings relative to analogue systems using films in high throughput settings can be quite significant. Even at a low throughput of 50 images per day, digital images are more economical.

Easy Image Manipulation

Digital images allow for easy manipulation, such as :- Magnification of the area of interest, Measurements of length and angle, Contrast Adjustment Negative - Positive switch over, Horizontal / Vertical Flip, Zoom In and Out, Rotation, Side by side layout of images for easy comparison.

Instant image retrieval

Digital radiology systems using an integrated Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) can efficiently archive and retrieve large numbers of images. This eliminates the high archiving cost of analogue film based images. Using the universal Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format, the PACS attaches patient information to the right image, eliminating the risk of “storing a film in the wrong envelope” and, enhancing patient safety.

Remote diagnosis

If the X-ray image cannot be interpreted locally because no specific knowledge is available or the image is particularly difficult to interpret, it can be sent over the internet or even over a low bandwidth (mobile phone) connection to a centre where accurate reading can be done. The diagnosis can be sent back immediately and continues to be associated with the right digital image.

Computer Aided Diagnosis

Pattern recognition software that allows for the recognition of abnormalities has now become available for use in the field as a “second opinion”. The sensitivity of the recognition techniques and diagnostic accuracy keeps improving over time, allowing radiologists to focus more time on reading abnormal images.

Low Maintenance

Designed for high reliability and durability required for high throughput diagnosis, MEDTEK LDR assures maximum uptime performance and low maintenance. However, the superiority of the product alone won’t compensate for poorly maintained equipment, operator error or faulty techniques. That's why experienced support is standard on all installations.

Reduced Footprint

Digital x-ray not only eliminates the use of film, cassettes, chemicals, but more importantly, it also eliminates the expensive space needed for darkrooms and for storage; it’s easy to see that digital is the right choice.

Environmentally friendly

Digital X-ray is clean technology as chemical waste from film developing, that can cause serious environmental damage, is completely eliminated.

MedTek LDR Portfolio

Linear Array Detector

By using our innovative slit line scan technology and high sensitivity of the semiconductor line array detector, MedTek LDR eliminates up to 70% of the scattered radiation, with a unit pixel scan time of only 1 to 2.5 msec, drastically reducing the radiation dose. Typical Chest X-ray incident dose of <0.02mGy, is 1/15 to 1/30 times lower than the EC CEC X-ray radiation protection standard of 0.30 mGy. Using grayscale adjustment, a radiologist can observe the different densities of tissue, eliminating the need for duplicate photography, further lowering the overall radiation doses.

Line scan imaging technology provides fundamentally better imaging solution by significantly reducing the noise interference to the image, thereby improving DQE and low-contrast conditions, spatial resolution, allowing physicians to see more soft tissue, and wide dynamic range.

Contrast that with the conventioanl Surface exposure imaging mode, the background noise is large, the dynamic range is narrow, there are many weak signals which get locally masked by noise, reducing the low contrast conditions, and spatial resolution.

Wireless Flat Panel Detector

Our flat-panel detector and the image processing software received the SFDA certification in November, 2010. The 17 * 17 inch flat panel detector consists of an entire board structure of cesium iodide amorphous silicon (whole piece of non-spliced TFT - without stitching). The Tablet DR offers pixel size of 143 microns, and the system spatial resolution of 3.7Lp/mm.

The detector's light weight (13 lbs / 6kg) and wireless operation provide convenient handling and unprecedented positioning flexibility, making it possible to simply install it on a modified bed or a trolley. It also provides the needed freedom to capture difficult or unusual x-ray projections such as in an operating room, immobilized patients, intensive care unit and emergency situations.

The image processing software supports a number of different configurations, using either a single detector, or combinations of several detectors. This feature facilitates easy management of the company's entire range of X-ray detectors.
